Janus Co-Chief Investment Officer examines the new risks in fixed income that most investors don’t know about.  "The world has changed for fixed income investors. The four primary sectors in the fixed income market have essentially converged into two. Interest rate risk in the U.S. is at its highest level in decades. Sector risk/return characteristics have been significantly altered-perhaps permanently. These factors are coming together to create an environment of heightened risk for fixed income investors."

"At some point, the gas price is likely to fall below the operational cost of production, which will cause a lot of production to be shut down. We're also likely to see an increase in demand from industrial users or other sectors. Longer term, we think new markets will open up. Some will be in the industrial sector, others will be electric utilities, and we’ll probably see exports to global markets in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG)."  On May 12th, 2011 Janus announced that David Decker, portfolio manager for the Janus Opportunistic Alpha and other strategies, will be leaving Janus after 19 years with the firm to establish his own independent asset management business. Replacing him is Dan Kozlowski, who will act as the new portfolio manager for the Janus Contrarian Fund, Janus Opportunistic Alpha and Opportunistic Core managed accounts effective June 30, 2011. Kozlowski was previously with Janus from 1999 to 2008 as an equity research analyst and co-portfolio manager of Janus Long/Short Fund along with David Decker.  Much of the regulation's implementation has been left to regulators, which limits the ability to quantify its overall effects.
